Must See Places

Non Tourist Places to See/Visit/Do in Rotterdam:

Market: Every Tuesday and Saturday on the Binnenrotte you can find a big market where you can buy everything from fabric to fruit to fish. Take a leisurely stroll among the stalls and listen to the beautiful sounds of the vendors shouting at you exactly how much they are selling their wares for.

Museum night: Around the end of February or the start of March Rotterdam opens all its musea for one night. With one ticket you are allowed to enter all of them. If you're not a big museum goer but still want to soak up some culture why not do it all in one night and go for a drink after!

Wereld van Witte de With: One of Rotterdam's more well known streets is the Witte de Withstraat. The street is interesting enough to visit on any day of the week and only one street down from the harbour. This street is very closely located near all the musea and is littered with bars and coffee shops (yes, those kinds of coffee shops). This street is, understandably, very popular among students. In September though, this street hosts the one day festival called "Wereld van Witte de With." By day the streets are full of crazy art performances, by night it's full of bars, open air clubs and sometimes underground ones too if you know where to find them.

Swanmarket: Every month from March to September in different locations throughout the city there is a market where you can buy beautifully hand crafted fashion items made by local creative industries. It's like Etsy, but in real life.

Parks: Rotterdam is a very modern and busy city but it might be nice to take a step back from all of that every once in a while. Luckily there are loads of big parks to visit and take a stroll through. Kralingse Plas is a big lake with a beautiful green surroundings. If you have a sit down on one of the benches and take a look around, it's hard to imagine that you're in the middle of a city. If you want to see some green but still want to be social, Vroesenpark is the park for you. Always bustling with people having barbeques, organizing summer parties and playing music together. Extra bonus: this park allows the consumption of alcohol.
